Sibylle and Ron Tornow

Having enjoyed a collaborative studio for over 17 years, their individual creative approach is very diverse. Sibylle will risk all by taking a spontaneous idea to completion without planning and Ron prefers to eliminate as much risk as possible before firing. Each method has its pros and cons and both artists benefit from this blend of ideas and methods.

Creations by Sibylle and Ron They work individually with a constant consultation and exchange of ideas. Sibylle's appreciation of movement has led to a body of altered forms. Ron is excited by graphic designs and the sculptural elements of their work. Both draw energy from the fulfillment of the creative process.

Their multiple lines employ sumi-e decoration, celadon or red graphically contrasted accent colors, high fluxing crater-like surfaces, as well as airbrushed colors. The sumi-e decoration is applied as a motif of leaf or blossom designs. Sibylle has expanded the technique to full color paintings on clay slabs to be displayed as wall hangings. Sibylle is an avid gardener gaining inspiration from the flowers she grows.

Creations by Sibylle and Ron Their formal education is in the arts. Sibylle began her studies in Europe and continued in New York City where she met Ronald. He was attending Cooper Union at the time after studying fine art at the Brooklyn Museum Art School. Both have continued their clay studies through courses and workshops sponsored by the League of NH Craftsmen, the Worcester Art Center and the New Hampshire Potters Guild.
