William T. Laughlin

Bill Laughlin was born, raised and educated in Massachusetts. He studied engineering and physics, obtaining a doctorate degree in materials science from the Massachusetts Institute of technology. His unique vocational expertise involves understanding response of materials to intense high power laser radiation and in simulating intense heat environments. These simulations are designed to evaluate candidate materials for specific applications, such as solid rocket motor and flight vehicle components. Bill is an elected Fellow of the Directed Energy Professional Society.

Bill's Creations Bill's lifetime avocation has been making wood into beautiful and functional custom pieces. His interest and experience in building with wood began before he was in high school. In conjunction with building his first home during the 70's, he designed and built furniture using only hand tools. As his family grew, he began acquiring power tools to speed his production. Bill designed and built custom furniture with and for each of his three children. Currently, Bill is contemplating retirement in order to expand his woodworking activities into a second career.

Bill's Creations Bill's furniture design and construction evolution has been without formal training in a learn-by-doing approach. One of the most important aspects of his design is the selection of wood, finding unique and interesting grains and natural features to showcase in his furniture. His many years of experience have resulted in quality production of increasingly complex designs. Nearly all the furniture Bill has made to date has been designed for specific spaces and particular functions in cooperation with his clients.

Bill is a member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen and the Guild of New Hampshire Woodworkers. He builds Japanese-themed tables for display of floral arrangements exclusively for Ikebana Flower in Nashua, NH.
