For centuries, bamboo has been used by craftspeople in Japan. Bamboo touches every aspect of Japanese daily life – art, crafts, design, literature, and food. Nancy Moore Bess has spent more than fifteen years of dedicated research and study, and has accumulated an unparalleled collection of photographs and slides illustrating the natural beauty and historic importance of bamboo in Japan.
Bess lectures on basketry and bamboo around the world and is an active member of the American Bamboo Society. She is the author of a book titled “Bamboo in Japan” that will be available for sale. Her studio is located in Amherst, Massachusetts.
